The Trustee

Atlas is looked after by a trustee company, Atlas Master Trust Trustee Limited. This means the trustee company has board of directors who look after Atlas. Throughout this site we’ll just refer to them as ‘the Trustee’.

By law, it’s the Trustee’s job to make sure that Atlas is run properly and in the best interests of the members. So, it makes sense that people on the Trustee board have lots of expertise and commitment to Atlas. And, to prevent any conflict of interest, everyone on the board is independent from the employers using Atlas, the administrators of Atlas and other companies providing services to Atlas.

The Trustee looks after all aspects of Atlas and meets up during the year to ensure that the scheme is being run properly and by the rules, as well as considering how it can be improved.

Your Atlas Trustee board

The Trustee board want to make sure your pension is properly looked after so you can have the retirement you choose. We currently have three board members looking after Atlas. Click on the boxes below to find out more about each Trustee.

Alan Whalley

Alan is highly experienced, having previously worked on executive boards for two of the largest global pension firms, Mercer and Towers Watson.

A highly respected member of the pensions industry, Alan helped the government during the creation of NEST (the National Employment Savings Trust), the national pension scheme set up to help smaller employers, and firms with low-paid employees, to meet their pension obligations under automatic enrolment.

As well as Atlas, Alan also holds prominent roles on other large pension scheme trustee boards which he runs concurrently with Atlas.

When Alan isn’t at work, he likes to read, travel on holiday to experience different cultures (including the food!), watch Formula 1 and rugby, and see his family, who are scattered across the country.

Steve Delo

Steve is the Chief Executive of PAN Governance LLP and works as an independent trustee or chairman to pension schemes.

Steve has been named Engaged Investor’s Independent Trustee of the Year twice (in 2010 and 2014), been listed as one of the Top 50 People in Pensions (by Pensions Insight) and has been President of the Pensions Management Institute.

Steve and his wife live in East Sussex and have three sons, aged 14, 13 and 11, who keep them extremely busy.  When he gets some rare free time, Steve enjoys music and has seen many aging rock legends at concerts over the years.  He is also trying to get better at playing guitar. During the summer, he spends hours on his lawn mower and is obsessed with trying to outwit the moles and badgers that constantly try to ruin his handiwork.

Penny Green

Penny is a Trustee Executive at BESTrustees, a firm of independent pension trustees. She’s also been President of the Pensions Management Institute, and has been twice voted one of the 100 most influential women in finance (by Financial News), as well as being one of the top 50 most influential people in pensions (by Engaged Investor).

Basically, Penny’s widely respected and knows her stuff. She’s got substantial trustee experience and in-depth knowledge of both pension investment and administration.

When she’s not working, she likes to read, keeps fit by walking, and enjoys travelling. Penny lives in the South of France and watches French quiz shows as a guilty pleasure (which she claims she only watches to improve her French!).
